The Birmingham Department of Public Works is an administrative department of the City of Birmingham. Its offices are located at 501 6th Avenue South. Joshua Yates is the Director of Public Works.

The Department manages two public landfills, the Eastern Area Landfill off Alton Drive near Trussville, and the New Georgia Landfill on 47th Avenue North north of the I-65/I-22 junction.

In 2022 the Birmingham City Council approved $6.5 million in funding in the 2023 Birmingham budget to switch to side-loading garbage collection trucks and to provide residents with 96-gallon rolling bins. Waste collection was changed from twice a week to once a week.
