Birmingham Fire Station No. 16 is located at 2001 Avenue I. The station was built in 1975 replacing the Ensley combination fire/police station. It serves Ensley, Ensley Highlands, Tuxedo, and Sherman Heights.
Station No. 16 previously occupied a two-story brick station house with Italianate details and a walled courtyard, at 1623 Avenue G Ensley. In 1960 it was equipped with a combination 750-gallon pumper / 75-foot ladder truck and a car for the West District chief. Another 500-gallon pumper truck was kept in reserve.
