East Lake is a community and former town which was annexed into Birmingham on January 1, 1910 as part of the Greater Birmingham annexation campaign. Today the commiunity includes the neighborhoods of Brown Springs, Gate City, North East Lake, Wauhoma, Zion City and the East Lake neighborhood.

The East Lake community is located north of the Woodlawn, east of Crestwood, south of Roebuck-South East Lake, and west of Huffman communities along First Avenue North and Interstate 59, and includes East Lake Park.
