The '''Freunde Deutscher Sprache und Kultur''', or simply the '''Birmingham German Club''', is a club dedicated to showcasing German culture within the [[Birmingham District]]. Having its beginnings in [[1965]], the club was begun by [[Mina Keasler]] and other "war brides" as a means to connect back with their German heritage. Originally meeting at the [[Hollywood Country Club]], the club is now located at 2318 [[2nd Avenue North]] in downtown [[Birmingham]].

From the club spawned the German band [[Die Mitternaechter]] with Keasler serving as lead singer. The club is most known for organizing the annual [[Birmingham Oktoberfest]] each October since [[1977]]. Today, the club still hosts monthly dinners and is open Friday nights for beer drinking. 

An earlier [[German Society of Birmingham]] held meetings in the 1880s.
