Gucci Mane

Radric Davis, known as Gucci Mane (born February 2, 1980 in Bessemer) is an Atlanta-based rapper.

Born Radric Davis in the outskirts of Bessemer, Mane moved to East Atlanta with his mother at the age of nine. He adopted his stepfather's nickname when he began rapping. He recorded his first album, Trap House, for release in 2005. The day before it was set to hit the racks, he was arrested for a fatal shooting that was later deemed to have been an act of self-defense.

The single "Icy", on which he collaborated with Young Jeezy, was the breakout from that debut. A dispute over rights to the song, however, caused a riff between the two artists.

Hard to Kill followed in 2006, bringing the attention of major labels. He signed with Asylum/Atlantic in 2007 and helped develop the "So Icey Entertainment" imprint within the company. He recorded Back to the Trap House, which sold 32,000 copies its first week. Sales were fueled by the hit single "Freaky Gurl", a reprise from Hard to Kill which peaked at #12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Rap Tracks.

Mane was pleaded guilty to assaulting a nightclub promoter in 2005. In September 2008 he was sentenced to one year in jail for failing to fulfill the community service which was a condition of his release. He was arrested on marijuana charges shortly before his 2009 album "Gucci Move" was released.

After his release, Mane commissioned a facial tattoo of a triple-scoop ice cream cone at Atlanta's 10th Street Tattoo studio. In November of that year he was returned to jail for violating the terms of his probation. He pleaded "mental incompetency" during a hearing and was committed to Anchor Hospital for evaluation. He was returned to prison until being released in May 2016.
