The Harry Jones, constructed in 1901, was a steam-powered fire engine acquired by the Birmingham Fire Department and used by the Southside Fire Company, operating from Station No. 2.
The 8,000-pound engine was a "Metropolitan 1st Class Steamer" manufactured by the American Fire Engine Company in Cincinnati, Ohio at a cost of $5,500. It could pump 900 gallons of water per minute, and was equipped with Goodyear "Endless Fire Truck Tires", 58-3 in front and 60-4 on the rear.
The engine was named in honor of Alderman Harry Jones, who chaired the Fire and Water Committee.
