The Holmes Pavilion was a raised outdoor plaza facing 7th Avenue South and connecting to the second floor of UAB's Spain Rehabilitation Center.
Funds to construct the pavilion were donated by the children of Frances Spain Hodges. Dampier-Harris & Associates designed the pavilion, which was built by Doster Construction. It was dedicated in honor of former Spain Rehabilitation Center director Edward Holmes Jr on September 24, 1974.
In 2016 the Holmes Pavilion was refurbished and a 32-foot circular labyrinth was painted on the concrete floor to provide a place for patients to focus on peace and wellbeing. The design was painted in bright blue, red, orange, green, purple, and yellow colors.
In 2017, the pavilion was closed due to structural integrity issues. In January 2019, the pavilion was demolished and removed from the site.
