Hugh Morrow was a Birmingham attorney who became involved in the early development of the city when he represented the group of investors who purchased the Sloss Iron & Steel Company from founder Colonel James Withers Sloss in 1885. Morrow became president of the resulting Sloss-Sheffield Steel & Iron Company. Morrow would go on to become an influential Birmingham industrialist, serving on the board of U.S. Pipe and Foundry Company and overseeing its merger with his own company in 1952.
