The Zoo held a naming contest for the calf which generated over 1,200 suggestions. Students from the [[Ramsay High School]] Interact Club, which is affiliated with the [[Rotary Club of Shades Valley]], entered the winning entry, "Jalil", which means "honored one" in Arabic. The Rotary Club has made a contribution to the zoo to offset the cost of obtaining and keeping the animal.
