Jupe (or JuPe) was a costumed giraffe mascot for Junior League of Birmingham programs, specifically the Birmingham Children's Theatre. Created in 1948 as a "symbol of good behavior", Jupe gave a brief lesson in proper audience manners before each performance.
Jupe's costume, created by one of the theatre program's founders and worn by her husband, consisted of a tall papier-mâché head and neck with painted brown slacks and shoes, worn with a coat or turtleneck and white gloves.
