Kim Meriwether died in a hang-gliding accident in [[1989]]. Wanda continued to operate the restaurant until [[2009]], selling it to [[Ron Mason]]. After less than a year, Mason sold it to siblings [[Shawn Morrison]] and [[Stacey Marchman]]. They renovated the interiors before reopening in early [[2010]], with Wanda Meriwether helping to train the staff.
 
The Southside building was demolished in [[2016]] for construction of [[The Waites]] apartments.

La Cocina was a Mexican restaurant founded in 1974 by former Sailmaker manager Kim Meriwether and his wife Wanda. It first opened at 7855 Crestwood Boulevard, near K-Mart, and later moved to 2111 7th Avenue South, above the Burly Earl. Isaac Gore was head chef. The restaurant's menu was well known for its 8-layer dip, Godzilla burritos, and Vegadia chimichangas.

Kim Meriwether died in a hang-gliding accident in 1989. Wanda continued to operate the restaurant until 2009, selling it to Ron Mason. After less than a year, Mason sold it to siblings Shawn Morrison and Stacey Marchman. They renovated the interiors before reopening in early 2010, with Wanda Meriwether helping to train the staff.
