1. October 18: Jennifer Gail Hampton, 39, was found shot to death off Hinkle Road in Clanton. Marty Joe Taylor was arrested in 2012 and charged with murder. (report)

Talladega County

• May 8, 1998: Tracy Lee Phillips was shot to death by John Russell "Cody" Calhoun during an invasion of his home on Coffee Street in Talladega. Mrs Phillips was subsequently raped at gunpoint while their daughter and a friend were locked into a bedroom. Calhoun was convicted and sentenced to death.
