The Little Belle Iron Company was incorporated on July 24, 1888 to construct blast furnaces in Bessemer. Henry F. DeBardeleben was president of the company. Other investors included E. A. Burke of Bessemer along with three shareholders from Charleston, South Carolina and five from Natchez, Mississippi.
The company's first plant, a 12x60 charcoal-fired furnace, began construction immediately. It was supplied from large timber and ore holdings owned by the company.
Little Belle and the Bessemer Iron & Steel Co. were consolidated into the DeBardeleben Coal & Iron Company in 1890. That company was in turn sold to the Tennessee Coal, Iron & Railroad Company in 1892.
