Marvin’s Building Materials and Home Centers is a chain of home improvement stores based in Leeds.

History

Marvin's was founded as a single hardware store in Alabama City (now Gadsden) by Marvin Cohn in 1945. Cohn later expanded with a second store and additional products. In 1965, the two stores were replaced by a newly-built, full-service home center. The following year, Cohn's oldest son, Alfred, finished his education and joined the business, eventually taking over from his father. Alfred moved the company's headquarters to Trussville in the 1980s. Initially, the building at 6345 South Chalkville Road was strictly an office building, but due to increased customer inquiries, the building was expanded and a retail store was added to the rear. In 1998 the entire building was renovated to accommodate a larger store, and the headquarters was moved to an unmarked building at 7840 Parkway Drive in Leeds.

The chain has since spread across Alabama and Mississippi. In 2012, the first of several planned Tennessee stores opened.
