A new 12-classroom brick structure for the high school was completed for $342,000 in [[1955]] and the older building was converted into an elementary school. Additions were made in [[1969]], [[1975]], [[1988]], and [[1994]].
 
The current campus was constructed after an [[1998 Oak Grove tornado|F5 tornado]] destroyed the former school on [[April 8]], [[1998]]. During the interim between the tornado and the opening of the new school students attended the old [[Gilmore-Bell Vocational School]] near [[Hueytown]]. The present building was completed in [[2000]] at a cost of $17 million. The former school site was redeveloped as [[Oak Grove Memorial Park]].
 
Oak Grove's athletic teams are the Tigers and its school colors are red and white. Band director [[Samuel Bonham]] wrote the school's ''alma mater'' in [[1963]].
