Parkside Home & Garden Shop was a home decor, antiques, gift and garden boutique owned by Tim Burt. He opened the first location at 4036 5th Avenue South across from Avondale Park in 2000. He invested $450,000 renovating a turn-of-the-century two-story marble works and showroom to house the shop on the ground floor and his own residence in an upstairs loft. The project won a 2003 Preservation Award from the Birmingham Historical Society.
As the business grew he leased a house in Forest Park in order to expand the shop into his former residence. In February 2004 Burt opened a second location at the Vestavia Hills City Center and moved back into his former Avondale loft.
In Spring 2005 Burt was anticipating the opening of a third location in downtown Mobile was planning a fourth at The Wharf in Orange Beach and a possible location in Nashville. The Mobile store opened in 2008 and Burt closed on a building in Talladega's Court Square early that same year.
The Vestavia location closed in the Fall of 2005 following a dispute about water leaking from a spa on the floor above. The original Avondale location was closed and put on the market in July 2008.
