Sam Fiorella
Samuel Anselma Fiorella (born September 4, 1925 in Alabama; died March 24, 1991 in Jefferson County) was a gambler and bookmaker accused of operating an illegal gaming house at the former Beverly Club or Kid McCoy residence off of U.S. Highway 31 in northern Shelby County. He settled a suit by the Internal Revenue Service seeking payment of taxes due from himself and the Shades Ridge Holding Company. He was later convicted on federal obstruction of justice charges and sentenced to prison at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery. In 1977 he was indicted for participating in a sports book by telephone from that prison.
Fiorella was the son of former barber Jack Fiorella Sr. He was married to the former Katherine Desiree Tucker. They had two daughters, Melina and Samelia.
Fiorella died in 1991 and is buried at Elmwood Cemetery.
