The current president is Catherine Sloss Crenshaw, the great-great granddaughter of Colonel James Withers Sloss the founder of Sloss Furnace Company. Over the years the Colonel's industrial company became a large land-holder in the state which gave rise to a separate real estate company.

Sloss' son, Arthur Page Sloss and partner Everett Shepherd built the company into a major player in Birmingham's development.
