The Homewood Independent was a weekly newspaper started in 1988 to specifically cover the city of Homewood. It was published every Wednesday, except during the summer when the paper went bi-weekly. Each issue was priced at 50 cents. Unlike many other weekly papers that have come and gone, The Homewood Independent was a full-sized, non-stapled newspaper.

The newspaper's office was located at 2900 Linden Avenue in Homewood. Curtis Robinson was the editor and publisher. Audrey Hudson was the News Editor and George R. Cline was the Managing Editor.
