The Newboys (sometimes The New Böys) were a rock band active in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham from 1984 to 1990. The group was formed by Rob Thorworth, who convinced fellow guitarist and vocalist J. Willoughby to return to Tuscaloosa from Nashville. They added bassist Stephen Collins and drummer Keith Shamblin to their first line-up. The band debuted at Gallette's in Tuscaloosa on December 7, 1984.
The name was chosen from a line in Pink Floyd's "Young Lust" and also reflected Thorworth and Shamblin's status in their fraternities. Bassist Chip Arn and drummer John Scalici later replaced Collins and Shamblin. The group's 1987 self-titled album appeared on college radio charts in February and March of that year. The song "Dramatics of Love" was their biggest hit.
The Newboys played their last show at Louie Louie on September 8, 1990. They reunited for the "Iron Bowl of Rock and Roll" with the Plaid Camels and Month of Sundays at WorkPlay in June 2008.
