The WE Community Garden (formerly called the West End Urban Garden) is a community garden created in 2008 as a joint project of the Community Church Without Walls and Urban Ministry It is located in a former vacant lot near Cotton Avenue and 12th Street Southwest. It is managed by program director Ama Shambulia and garden manager Myron Pierre.
In addition to providing space for community gardening, beds are planted for produce distribution to area seniors and community markets, as well as the WE Community Cafe. Some produce is also sold to Café Dupont. Gardening and cooking classes are offered monthly.
Funding for the purchase of the 1/4 acre lot was assisted by a grant from the CAWACO Resource Conservation and Development Council. The Keep Birmingham Beautiful Commission donated a row of flowering dogwood trees.
