Winston M. Boutwell (born September 25, 1929; died July 30, 2011 in Indian Springs Village) was the founding chief of the North Shelby Fire Department.
Boutwell was a member of the U.S. Merchant Marines in World War II and the Korean War.
Boutwell later joined the Prichard Fire Department and became chief in 1965. In 1978, he was recruited to become chief of the newly formed North Shelby Fire Department. He remained chief until his retirement in 1995 and was succeeded by Michael O'Connor.
In January 2011, Boutwell, who had had a previous bout with lung cancer, was again diagnosed with cancer and told he had two weeks to a month to live. He survived six more months before succumbing and was survived by his wife, Bobbie, and two children. He was buried at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
