2024 Fultondale property tax referendum
The 2024 Fultondale property tax referendum was held in Fultondale on Tuesday August 27, 2024 to determine whether to increase the municipal property tax rate by 5 mills (from 5.0 to 10.0) to fund city services, including maintaining professional fire and rescue services which had been funded for three years under a 2021 "Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response" (SAFER) grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Fultondale City Councilor Josh Bryant anticipated that if it passed, the measure would provide the city with about $700,000 in additional annual revenues. Mayor Larry Holcomb opposed the increase, saying that the city had other options to generate revenues without raising taxes.
Balloting took place at the Fultondale Senior Citizen Building at 900 Rowe Drive. 679 votes were recorded. The result of the election was a rejection of the proposal.
