Alabama House District 44
Alabama State House of Representatives, District 44 is a legislative district which includes most of Trussville along with parts of Clay, Irondale, Leeds and Pinson, and a small part of western Argo.
District 44 has a 2020 population of 50,594, slightly more than the average of 47,850 per district. It is 66% white, 25.2% Black or African-American, 1.5% Asian, and 4.2% Hispanic or Latino of any race. The median household income is $77,381.
The district is currently represented by Trussville accountant and business executive Danny Garrett.
Redistricting
A redistricting plan reflecting the 2020 U.S. Census took effect on November 9, 2022. The borders of District 44 were modified to add area ceded from District 51 east of Emerald Lake, while also ceding parts of Pinson to the same district. Another section of Irondale between I-20 and U.S. Highway 78 was ceded to District 54.

- 2002: 6-term incumbent Arthur Payne was re-elected.
- 2006: 7-term incumbent Arthur Payne defeated Democrat Jonathan Barbee 68%-32% in the general election.
- 2010: 8-term incumbent Arthur Payne ran unopposed in the Republican primary and general election.
- 2014: Danny Garrett defeated John Amari in a run-off in the Republican primary and was unopposed in the general election.
- 2018: 1-term incumbent Danny Garrett ran unopposed in the Republican primary and general election.
- 2022: 2-term incumbent Danny Garrett ran unopposed in the Republican primary and defeated Libertarian candidate John Boone 85%-15% in the general election.
