The April 15, 2011 tornado outbreak was part of a major tornado outbreak which affected the Southern United States between April 14–16, 2011. The storm system produced 178 confirmed tornadoes in 16 states and killed 43 people (38 from tornado damage and 5 from damaging straight-line winds). In Alabama, 45 tornadoes were confirmed, breaking the state record of 36 set during the November 2001 tornado outbreak. Seven deaths in Alabama were attributed to the outbreak. Those records were soon surpassed by the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak which was associated with 62 tornadoes in Alabama, killing 249 people.
