Bessemer City Schools are administered by the Bessemer Board of Education to serve the City of Bessemer. Its offices are located at 1621 5th Avenue North. The superintendent is Dana Arreola.
The system's total enrollment has dropped from 4,850 in 1999–2000 to 3,246 in 2022–2023. In 2022 the system had 156 full-time teachers, 72 administrators and 102 staff members. It's annual budget was $48,212,000.t
In August 2024 the Alabama State Board of Education voted to assume management of Bessemer City Schools, citing financial shortfalls and chronic disfunction on the board.
