Boy was a dog who resided at Birmingham-Southern College. He appeared on campus in 1937 and became a favorite at the college. The Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order honored him as a "pledge" of their fraternity. When the chapter relocated from their house on 9th Court West to another location, Boy stayed behind and was cared for by neighbor Walter Donahue and his wife.

On the evening of November 9, 1939 Boy was attacked by an unknown person with an ice pick and suffered numerous puncture wounds to the head and neck. He was found in the morning by the Donahues and taken to an animal hospital in downtown Birmingham for treatment. Students organized to raise funds to help offset his medical bills and to purchase a "medal of valor" for his bravery in fighting off a presumed burglar.
