Coleridge Tillman
Coleridge Gardner Tillman (born January 17, 1982 in Birmingham) is a songwriter, record producer, and R&B singer working as Sebastian Kole, and a country singer performing as Pynk Beard.
Tillman, whose parents are both pastors in the Apostolic church, began singing and writing music in church choirs and in the Birmingham Boys Choir during his childhood in Dolomite. He expanded into writing and performing rap as a teenager. He became friends with Ruben Studdard in middle school, and they auditioned on the same day for American Idol.
Tillman graduated from Ramsay High School and continued singing while majoring in music technology at the University of Alabama. After graduating he returned home, and in 2012 he and Michael Warren co-wrote a chorus called "Goin' In", which was picked up by Jennifer Lopez for a collaboration with Flo Rida. She debuted the song on American Idol and made it the first single from her album "Dance Again...The Hits".
Tillman signed a contract with EP Entertainment that December, and relocated to Los Angeles, California. He chose his stage name as a reference to composer Johann Sebastian Bach. For EP he participated in writing and producing Alessia Cara's debut album Know-It-All, including the single "Here" for which she won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. He also wrote music used on ABC-TV's Grey's Anatomy and worked with Alicia Keys, John Legend and Usher. His song "Perfect Way To Die" appeared on the Grammy-winning soundtrack album for Keys' stage musical "Hell’s Kitchen".
In 2016 Tillman partnered with his mother, Bernadine Birdsong and grandmother, Amelia Williams, to purchase Michael's Steaks and Seafood, which was moved to the Southern Negro League Museum two years later. The rooftop lounge was named "Bar Sebastian" in his honor.
In 2024 Tillman wrote a country-tinged single entitled "One Slow Dance" and pitched it to Shaboozy. Many who heard the track encouraged him to record it himself, and he made it the feature single of an album entitled "Sugar & Salt", recorded under the name "Pynk Beard". Dez Wilson helped produce a showcase concert at Regions Field's Pearl Room on January 31, 2025.
