Eastern Health System was a network of three hospitals on the eastern side of the Birmingham area which was merged into Ascension St Vincent's in 2007.
The system grew out of the non-profit East End Memorial Hospital, founded in 1945 in a former Howard College dormitory in East Lake. It moved to Huffman in the 1980s and was renamed Medical Center East.
Eastern Health signed a management agreement with St Vincent's in December 2005. St Vincent's parent company, Ascension, formalized the merger by acquiring the system's three hospitals on July 2, 2007.
