Franklin Iron Works
Franklin Iron Works (originally the Tommie Corporation) is a ductile iron foundry located at 146 Tommie Drive, off Montgomery Avenue in Thorsby.
Mechanical engineer Manly Tommie founded the Tommie Corporation with his wife June in 1975 after a period of working with his brother-in-law at the Jones Foundry in Bessemer.
Under the leadership of Tommie's son-in-law, Allen Franklin, a Franklin Iron Works division was launched in 2002. After the closure of the parent company in 2012, Franklin Iron Works acquired its facilities and continued to do business with Franklin and his wife Peggy as owners. They later added their daughter Kellyn and her husband Travis Vines as partners.
In 2022 the Franklins retired and Elyton Capital of Birmingham and Druid Capital Partners of Tuscaloosa acquired the business, merging it with Alabama Castings LLC of Aliceville under the Franklin Iron Works name. Travis Vines remained president of the combined company.
