Harry Hester
Harry Daniel Hester (born October 23, 1925 in Birmingham; died January 17, 2006 in Cape Coral, Florida) was an architect and founder of Harry D. Hester & Associates.
Hester was the son of Lucien Douglass and Freddie Guelma "Elma" Daniel Hester. He graduated from Ensley High School and took vocational classes at Paul Hayne Opportunity High School. During World War II her served in the U.S. Army Air Forces. After the war he completed his bachelor's degree in architecture at Alabama Polytechnic Institute in Auburn.
As a practitioner, Hester specialized in commercial development. He was involved in designing Mountain Brook's Office Park and opened his office at 4-6 Office Park Circle in 1955.
Hester and his wife, Peggie had four children. After his retirement, Hester & Associates continued with one of his sons, Wayne, as president.
Hester was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Shades Valley, serving as its president in 1966–1967, and as governor of Rotary District 6860 in 1970–1971. He also compiled a history of the district's early years.
Hester died in hospice care in 2006, and was buried at Elmwood Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, children, and five grandchildren.
