Houston Brice Jr
Houston Allen Brice Jr (born November 24, 1917 in Birmingham; died March 1, 2005) was the son of Houston Brice, Sr and Earlyne Reynolds Brice, and the long-time president of Brice Building Company.
Brice grew up in Birmingham and attended Lakeview Elementary School and Ramsay High School before going to Birmingham-Southern College. He transferred to the University of Hawaii for his Bachelor of Arts and received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
During World War II Brice served in the U. S. Navy for four years, receiving his honorable discharge with the rank of Lieutenant Commander at the end of the war.
In 1943 he married the former Elisabeth Derry Ferguson, with whom he raised three daughters and one son.
Though he started his career with W. B. Leedy & Company, Brice soon joined his father's construction firm, serving as secretary, vice-president, president, and eventually chairman of the board of directors and CEO. He has also served on the boards of SouthTrust Bank, Jefferson Federal Savings & Loan, the Alabama Symphonic Association, the Eye Foundation Hospital, the Birmingham Museum of Art, The University of Alabama Health Services Foundation, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham and several other organizations. He was also an active supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and of his church, the Independent Presbyterian Church. In 1995 he and his wife established the Betty and Houston A. Brice Jr. Scholarship at Birmingham-Southern.
Brice was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor in 2002. He died on March 1, 2005.
