Jason Simpson

Jason Michael Simpson (born c. 1980) is a television meteorolgist for WVTM since 2022. He was previously the morning meteorologist for ABC 33/40 from 2004 to early 2012.

Simpson grew up in Holly Pond, graduating from Holly Pond High School in 1998. While working toward his his degree in Broadcast Meteorology at Mississippi State University, he interned for ABC 33/40's weather office and also worked part-time as the weekend meteorologist of WTOK-TV in Meridian, Mississippi. After graduation in 2001, he anchored the morning weather at KMIZ-TV in Columbia, Missouri. After a year, he returned to WTOK as chief meteorologist.

Simpson came to Birmingham as ABC 33/40's morning meteorologist in 2004. In 2007, he earned the American Meteorological Society's Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal for excellence in television weather. In December 2011, he was named chief meteorologist of WHNT-TV, the CBS affiliate in Huntsville, in the wake of chief meteorologist Dan Satterfield's resignation. He began his duties there in early January 2012.

Simpson stepped down from WHNT to take a job as principal scientist for Dynetics Inc. in Hunstville, testing and analyzing radar systems. He returned to Birmingham in 2022, appearing on weekday evening newscasts.

Simpson married the former Lacey Cortez in 2010. When they left Birmingham, they had one son, Walt.
