Jeff Davis County was a proposed new county to be split off from the western portion of Jefferson County, with Bessemer as its seat.
The proposal was voiced during construction of the new $175,000 Jefferson County Courthouse Bessemer Division, which was begun before World War I and completed in 1920. The idea never gained popular support and was abandoned.
