Kathy Lumpkin

Kathy Jo Lumpkin (born 1944 in Birmingham; died November 29, 2007 in Brandon, Mississippi) was the first female member of the Alabama Sports Writers Association and served three terms on the Football Writers Association of America board of directors.

Lumpkin was the daughter of Bill and Peggy Lumpkin. She graduated from Ensley High School and the University of Alabama before going to work for in journalism.

Lumpkin worked as a sports reporter at the Birmingham Post-Herald and Montgomery Advertiser, as well as the Memphis Commercial Appealand the Alabama Journal. She was the assistant sports editor and an NFL columnist for the the Jackson, Mississippi Clarion Ledger.

She died in 2007 and is interred at Elmwood Cemetery. She was survived by her parents and three siblings.
