Limbaugh Family Park of Hope
The Jim Limbaugh Family Park of Hope Honoring Phyllis Limbaugh is a landscaped plaza located on the southeast corner of Block 176, outside of the Hazelrig-Salter Radiation Oncology Center at the UAB Women & Infants Center, northwest of the intersection of 6th Avenue South and 18th Street South. It was constructed along with the center in 2010.
Automobile dealer Jim Limbaugh donated $1 million toward the "Rays of Hope" campaign to replace the Wallace Tumor Institute, the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center's existing radiation facility. The park space was named in his honor and in memory of his wife, Phyllis, who died from lymphoma in 1981.
The park, which features a grassy oval lawn ringed by a brick path with benches, and surrounded by shade trees, is intended as "a place of reflection and renewal" for patients and their families. An arched gateway and sign is located opposite the Radiation Oncology Center's waiting room on the north edge of the park. The northwest corner of the park, outside the Women's & Infants Center entrance drop-off, is marked by a circular fountain.
