Operation Taking It to the Streets
Operation Taking It to the Streets is a periodic sweep by the Birmingham Police Department's Vice/Narcotics Unit in cooperation with local precincts.
The operations, conducted since 2006, have netted in excess of 760 arrests, of which 221 were for felonies, 79 gun siezures, 113 towed vehicles and scores of ticketed citations.
January 11, 2008
More than 50 Birmingham officers and federal agents worked all over the city in "zero-tolerance" street sweeps. In 12 hours, 73 arrests were made, of which 17 were for felony offenses. One was for cocaine trafficking. In all, seven guns, some cocaine and $29,785 in cash was confiscated. 64 tickets were issued and 17 vehicles towed.
June 13, 2007
With officers from the East Precinct, the operation was conducted in the the Inglenook, East Lake, Woodlawn, Oporto Madrid Boulevard and First Avenue North neighborhoods on June 13.

November 4, 2006
With officers from the South Precinct, the operation was conducted in the the Kingston, South Town, Avondale, Titusville and Five Points South neighborhoods on November 4:
- 24 felony arrests
- 11 for unlawful possession of marijuana in the 1st degree
- 9 for unlawful possession of a controlled substance
- 1 for theft of trade mark
- 1 for violation of a "certain person forbidden" warrant
- 2 on outstanding arrest warrants
- 33 midemeanor arrests
- 5 for unlawful possession of marijuana in the 2nd degree
- 4 for VSFA
- 7 for operating a business without a license
- 7 on outstanding arrest warrants
- 2 for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia
- 1 for solicitation for prostitution
- 2 for driving under the influence
- 1 for disorderly conduct
- 5 others

Specific operations with officers from the East Precinct were conducted at Valley Brook Apartments and in the 5900 block of 1st Avenue South. The neighborhoods of Inglenook, East Lake and Woodlawn were also targeted.

- 1 for posession of pirated devices
- 27 midemeanor arrests

- 3 for prostitution-related offenses
- 2 for blocking sidewalks
- 1 for VSFA
- 1 for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia
- 1 for attempting to elude officers
