Patton Creek Shopping Center
Patton Creek Shopping Center is a 512,871 square-foot open-air "lifestyle center" on Alabama Highway 150 in Hoover. It opened in the summer of 2004 on a 65.7-acre site adjacent to the Riverchase Galleria.
The $30 million development, which was owned by AIG Baker, is distinguished by a two-story "main street" axis with smaller-scale storefronts. Interstate access to the site was facilitated by the Galleria Boulevard Flyover, which opened in 2002.
Regions Bank foreclosed on the development in 2010. In November 2013, the Chapel Lane extension was completed, connecting the center and Galleria Boulevard with portions of Hoover north of I-459.
In 2015 the shopping center was acquired by American Realty Capital and Lincoln Property Co. Southeast for $83.5 million. They sold it in 2017 to the Necessity Retail REIT of New York City.
In 2022 Patton Creek's owners began discussing a proposed major redevelopment of the shopping center which could involve demolishing as much as three fourths of the existing buildings. In addition to adding residential to the mix of retail, restaurant and entertainment uses, the developers began discussions with the City of Hoover about using part of the site for a publicly-owned performing arts center. According to Hoover City Administrator Allen Rice, the redevelopment would give Hoover its first and only "quaint, old Southern downtown area with storefronts."
In 2023 the City of Hoover proposed building a Hoover Center for the Arts performing arts center in the development. The Hoover City Council approved borrowing for the development, projected to cost $40 million, in March of that year. By September, however, the city was negotiating for Necessity Retail REIT to construct the facility, which it would then lease. A 3.4-acre landscaped park area would provide a venue for outdoor events.
