Sundra Escott

Sundra Escott (born February 21, 1954 in Birmingham) is a former State Representative for District 45 and District 60 and State Senator for District 20.

Escott earned her bachelor of science at Alabama State University and has worked as a mortgage loan consultant. She was formerly married to David Russell and has one son, David Jr.

Escott followed Earl Hilliard into the Alabama House of Representatives when he ran for Alabama State Senate. She then ran for the vacant seat when Hilliard was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and became the first African-American woman to join the state senate.

Escott has served on the boards of the Alabama Department of Youth Services and Tuskegee University. She is an active member of Israel Missionary Community Church.
