Vanessa Leonard

Vanessa Leonard (born September 26, 1960 in Birmingham; died March 11, 2024 in Birmingham) was an attorney and a member of the University of Alabama Board of Trustees.

Leonard graduated as valedictorian of her 1978 class at Coosa County High School, and earned a bachelor of science in health care accounting at the University of Alabama in 1983. She went on to complete a masters in business administration at the University of Mississippi in 1992 and a juris doctorate at the University of Alabama School of Law in 1995.

Leonard has worked for the Coosa County Human Resources Department and as a financial analyst for Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a senior consultant and manager for higher education with the international firm KPMG from 1995 to 2000. She later founded the Rockford-based firm of Leonard Mitchell Consulting.

Leonard was elected to the University of Alabama Board of Trustees in September 2002. Her current term expires in 2017. She chairs the board's audit committee and serves on the finance, compensation and investment committees.

She joined the Board of Directors of Protective Life in 2004 and chairs that board's audit committee. Leonard has also served on the boards of the Health Care Authority for Baptist Health and the UAB Education Foundation. She was appointed by Governor Bob Riley to his Governor's Task Force to Strengthen Alabama's Families, and has also served on the board of Lake Martin Area United Way.

Leonard died at UAB Hospital in March 2024.
