The Lumbar is a science-themed bar and restaurant located at 212 29th Street South in Pepper Place. It was opened in July 2018 by neuroscientist Rylie Hightower, and constructed by her father, Tim.

The Lumbar has a private room called "The Incubator" which can be reserved for meetings, work or study sessions.

The bar's business was disrupted by the COVID pandemic in 2020, and then by the Alabama Department of Transportation's 2nd Avenue South Complete Streets Project in 2024.
