The museum was jointly developed by [[Shelby County]], City of Calera, [[Calera Industrial Development Board]], the [[Calera Chamber of Commerce]] and the [[Alabama Fire College]]. The bulk of its collection was donated by retired [[Birmingham Fire and Rescue|Birmingham firefighter]] [[J. D. King]] and his wife [[Bobbie King|Bobbie]], who reside in [[Alabaster]].
