Cause and Outcome
So, was Calloway African American or was he simply targeted because he was mentally impaired? While I agree that people should not be judged by their race, in this case, with the Klan involved, it can help explain the attack's motivation.
Also, I'm confused by the outcome. An "unsuccessful defense" sounds like the state got one or more convictions. This is counter-intuitive from what I know of how events typically went back then. Also, I found this New York Times article on the case. --Lkseitz (talk) 06:07, 14 August 2018 (PDT)
