The Woodlawn neighborhood is a neighborhood in the Woodlawn community of eastern Birmingham. The neighborhood encompasses the eastern half of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, including the terminal and cargo facilities, extending as far as East Lake Boulevard, where it borders Inglenook and North East Lake. To the south, Woodlawn borders East Avondale and Crestwood North at the railroad right of way paralleling 5th Avenue South. On the west, Woodlawn borders North Avondale and Kingston across Messer Airport Highway and 47th Street North. The Wahouma and South East Lake neighborhoods adjoin Woodlawn's eastern edge, which is defined by I-59 and I-20 from just beyond their split.
The predominantly Hispanic community called "La Quemada," just south of the airport, is entirely within the Woodlawn neighborhood, as is Forest Hill Cemetery, Greenwood Cemetery, the Southern Museum of Flight and Willow Wood Park, the site of Obadiah Wood's pioneer homestead that gave the area its name. The former Downey Park was also in Woodlawn.
The Woodlawn Neighborhood Association meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at Woodlawn Library on 1st Avenue North. The neighborhood president is Brenda Pettaway.
