The floorball competition at the 2022 World Games took place from July 8 to July 12 at the East Exhibit Hall of the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex. Floorball has been an event since the 2017 World Games in Wrocław, Poland, and the Birmingham edition marked the second time floorball was included as a regular event at the World Games.
Invented in Sweden in the 1960s, floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. Men and women play indoors with 96–115.5 cm-long (37.8–45.5 in) sticks and a 70–72 mm-diameter (2.76–2.83 in) plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods.
Qualification
Qualification for the floorball event of the 2022 World Games was determined through the 2020 Men's World Floorball Championships, and the United States also qualified automatically as host nation. The top five finishing teams at the 2020 World Championships as well as the best finishing team from the Americas and Asia Oceania qualified for the World Games.
