The Bessemer Police Department serves the City of Bessemer, west of Birmingham, with a population of approximately 26,500. The department is located at 23 15th Street North. The department consists of 115 sworn officers and 40 professional staff members. Chief of Police Mike Roper retired on September 30, 2022.
