Revision as of 16:23, 3 October 2022

The orienteering competition at the 2022 World Games took place on July 15, July 16, and July 17 at multiple venues. The sprint competition was held on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College; the middle-distance competition was held at Oak Mountain State Park; and, the sprint relay was held at Railroad Park. Orienteering has been an event since the 2001 World Games in Akita, Japan, and the Birmingham edition marked the sixth time orienteering was included as a regular event at the World Games.

Orienteering is a group of sports that require navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain whilst moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points.
