Metropolitan Community Church is located at 337 64th Street South in the South Woodlawn Neighborhood. It was organized on March 17, 1938 by Rev. R.W. Hayden. Under his leadership the present building was erected in 1949. It was recognized as one of the Movement churches by the Birmingham Historical Society for its role in the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights in the 1950s and 60s.
