Taco Bell is a global fast-food restaurant chain owned by Yum Brands.
In 1971 it had two locations in central Alabama, one at 9509 Parkway East in Huffman and the other at 405 15th Street East in Tuscaloosa.
In January 2011 the Montgomery-based law firm of Beasley Allen Crow Methvin Portis & Miles filed a federal class-action lawsuit in California accusing Taco Bell of false advertising, claiming that the taco filling described as "seasoned ground beef" did not contain a high enough proportion of actual meat to qualify under FDA regulations. After learning that their claims were not supported by facts, the firm withdrew the suit in April.
Taco Bell has frequently used the Birmingham market to test new products and concepts. One such offering, tested in the area in 2022, was a "boldly seasoned plant-based protein" option.
