Center Point Fire District serves the citizens of north-east Jefferson County, including the cities of Center Point and Clay, and portions of the city of Pinson, as well as the unincorporated areas of Chalkville, Grayson Valley, Huffman, Ketona, Pawnee and Robinwood.
The CPFD was created in 1969 after citizens living in then-unincorporated areas of north-east Jefferson County voted to create the department. Under the legislation passed in 1966, the District was a separate government entity, falling under the Jefferson County Commission. The County Commission appoints a five member Fire Board to oversee the operations. It is currently headquartered at 2229 Center Point Parkway, adjacent to the Center Point City Hall and the district's Station No. 1, in the converted former gymnasium of Center Point School.
The Fire Department is headed by Fire Chief Howard T. Summerford, Jr. It is staffed by approximately 100 employees, staffing 4 fire stations, with 4 Engine Companies, and 4 Advanced Life Support Transport Units. Other units include 1 Service Support Unit, 1 Utility Truck, 1 100ft Ladder Truck, 1 Brush Truck, and 4 Reserves.
